Many of our patients have found that cosmetic smile makeovers can also be very satisfying. Experienced cosmetic dental specialists recognize that the best results are achieved when we consider the "big picture" - because smile enhancement often involves more that just teeth. This esthetic process begins with an indepth consultation to determine our patients' cosmetic goals and to reveal any restrictions or limitations they place on treatment.
The smile is then evaluated, analyzed and compared with other facial features. Recommendations and solutions are then reviewed to improve the teeth and surrounding gum tissues to properly frame the smile. For example, a gummy smile or gum irregularities can be corrected at the same time the smile is improved (see below). The effect of proper smile design can even improve the appearance of the lips - making them appear fuller and decreasing wrinkles in that area. The overall effect that we attempt to achieve is to turn back the clock to improve the smile as well as the facial appearance. Dr. Davis works very close with plastic surgeons to be able to offer suggestions when cosmetic dentistry is not enough.
The concept of improving the facial appearance through cosmetic dentistry is the central theme of most of Dr. Davis' lecture courses that he presents to aspiring cosmetic dentists at dental universities and conventions. (Click here to see Dr. Davis' Seminar Schedule).
